AFCON 2023: Super Eagles players snubbed in best XI from group stage

No Nigerian player was included in the best XI players from the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The list released on Thursday night, has players from Senegal and Morocco making up the majority.

In the official CAF Group stage XI, Equatorial Guinea’s Jesus Owono starts in goal while Emilio Nsue, current AFCON 2023 leading scorer with five goals, is up front.

Semi-finalists for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Morocco are represented by four players: midfielders Sofyan Amrabat and Azzedine Ounahi, defenders Achraf Hakimi and Nayef Aguerd.

Defending champions, Senegal boast of three players led by center back Kalidou Koulibaly. Forward Ismaila Sarr and midfielder Lamine Camara make up the list of the Teranga Lions.

The team is completed by Angolan attacker Gelson Dala and left back Arthur Masuaku of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
