Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command have apprehended seven notorious kidnappers in Abuja, seizing N9 million in ransom money.
The police commissioner in FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, while addressing the media at the command on Wednesday, highlighted the successful operation led by operatives of the Utako police division under CSP Victor Godfrey.
He identified the wanted kidnappers as Usman Muazu from Kwali, FCT, Aliyu Mohammed from Pumpomare area of Borno state, Awwal Dahiru from Gwagwalada area council of the FCT, Rabi Sani from Safana, Katsina state, Madina Abubakar from Gulu, Lapai local government area of Niger state, Jonah Elimelech from Kauru, Kaduna state, Saminu Idris also from Kauru, Kaduna state, and Mariji Iliya from Mangu, Plateau state.
CP Igweh disclosed that the suspects were connected to high-profile kidnapping incidents in FCT and its surroundings. “All the suspects have confessed to their crime and are providing valuable information to assist in the arrest of other gang members,” he stated. Additionally, various weapons such as knives, cutlasses, bulletproof vests, and charms were seized from the suspects.
Furthermore, CP Igweh revealed that 79 suspects were arrested during raids on several black spots across the FCT, including Trademore, Galadimawa, Maitama, and Gwagwalada. These raids were part of the command’s ongoing efforts to combat crime in the FCT. The police operatives raided uncompleted buildings and confiscated substances suspected to be Indian hemp and illicit drugs from the suspects.
“As we speak, the suspects who have been profiled are in custody undergoing interrogation at respective divisions, while those found guilty will be charged to court,” CP Igweh concluded.
