The 2023 World University rankings have been unveiled by The Times Higher Education, covering 104 countries and regions worldwide.
Among the top-ranking universities in Africa, ten institutions have secured prominent positions in the list.
At the pinnacle of African universities stands the University of Cape Town, followed by Stellenbosch University and the University of Witwatersrand in the second and third spots respectively.
Other notable African universities include the University of Ibadan, ranked seventh, and the University of Lagos, securing the ninth position.
On a global scale, the University of Oxford retains its leading position for the eighth consecutive year. However, there have been changes in the rankings of other top contenders, with Harvard University climbing to second place, displacing the University of Cambridge to third.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 encompass 1,799 universities, representing the largest and most diverse collection of university rankings to date. This year’s assessment involved the analysis of over 121 million citations from more than 15.5 million research publications, alongside feedback from 40,000 scholars worldwide.
