No fewer than 1000 nursery and primary school pupils in Mile 12, Lagos, were beneficiaries of the back-to-school program sponsored by itel Mobile.
Itel, the mobile phone brand, through its ‘Love Always’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, donated mobile libraries, text books, story books, school bags, and various educational materials, along with essential food items, to pupils of Aina Memorial School and Meidan Nursery and Primary School in the Mile 12 axis of Lagos.
On the reasons behind the initiative, Country Manager, itel Veeki Chen stated that their aim is to support the dreams of the young ones. “We have always had a soft spot for children, and with our “Love Always” on CSR initiative, we are especially dedicated to creating opportunities for them and supporting their dreams. We plan to donate more libraries and educational items to schools nationwide because we believe this is our responsibility as a brand.”
Also, the Marketing Manager of itel, West Africa 1, Oke Umurhohwo, revealed that the brand has extended direct support to over 80,000 students. “Today we are in Aina Memorial School, and it is part of our cooperative social responsibility to give back to society. We do not only sell phones and accessories; we also find impactful ways of helping the society in which we function. We cover different projects, from school to community to health empowerment programs. This particular one is school empowerment; we have donated a mobile library, school accessories, school bags, and lunch bag, just a way of supporting one kid at a time. We have been doing this for over six years across different African countries. We have given over 80,000 direct supports to schools’ students in the last year of this mobile library program.”
At the event, the children, overwhelmed by the show of love, danced to the various tunes while they competed to win several gifts. Lola, a fourth-grade pupil who spoke with the Daily Sun, jumped in excitement and said, “I am so happy that I have a new bag and sandals. I can now throw away the nylon bag that I am using. God bless Itel.”
