Plateau crisis: Gunmen invade secondary school, kill two teachers, injure VP

Two teachers have been killed and the vice principal seriously injured when gunmen suspected to be herders invaded BECO Comprehensive School, Kwi, in Riyom local government area of Plateau State.

The Principal of the school, Mr. Dantoro Gyang, who confirmed the attack to Daily Sun, said the staff of the school were on routine meeting at about 2:00 p.m. on Monday when some herdsmen led their cows into the premises for grazing.

Attempts by the security men to confront the herders, angered them and they shot sporadically.

There was stampede and pandemonium to among the staff who came out of the meeting to see what was happening.

He said: “While we are trying to engage them on the need to vacate the school premises, two of them suddenly brought out guns, pulled the triggers, and instantly killed two of my teachers, while the Vice-Principal (Adminstration), Mr. Dalyop Emmanuel Ibrahim, and one other person were shot in the abdomen.

“As I am talking to you now, one of those injured is presently receiving treatment at General Hospital Riyom, while the vice principal was taken to Jos University Teaching Hospital.”

President of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), Solomon Dalyop, described it as another form of terrorist attack on the people of Plateau State, adding that until open grazing is banned, the herdsmen will continue to terrorize the people of the state and the middle belt as a whole.

Spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, when contacted said he was yet to get details of the incident.
