The National/State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the petition of the former governor of Kano State, Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, which challenged the victory of Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila in the February 25th Senatorial elections
Justice R O Odogo, who delivered the judgement in Kano on Monday declared that the petition of the All Progressives Congress Senatorial candidate was not only incompetent but was unable to discharge the burden of proof.
“We find no merit in this petition and accordingly, it is hereby dismissed,” he declared.
” We affirmed the declaration of Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila of New Nigeria Peoples Party NPP as the winner of the Kano South Senatorial District election, held on 25th Feb. 2023″ he stated.
The tribunal awarded the sum of N200,000 the respondent.

Meanwhile, the election of another Kano NNPP House of reps member, Idris Dankawu, has been voided by the National and State Election Petition Tribunal.
Dankawu, according to the tribunal, had forged the West African School Certificate, (WAEC) he submitted to contest the election for Kumbotso Federal Constituency.
The petitioner, Munir Babba Danagudi had alleged that the respondent forged the Secondary School Certificate he tendered to secure admission into Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State.
Justice I.P Chima, who delivered the judgement agreed with the petitioner and voided the respondent’s victory while directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to set aside the Certificate of return issued to him and declare Munir Babba Danagudi the winner of the Kumbotso Federal Constituency election.
